On October 27, 2022, IPAC launched its first Light Mental Wellness Social Connection Event, with naming support from LingYu International Psychology Center. The event was held at the University of Toronto and marked the debut session of IPAC’s light mental wellbeing–focused social program.

Facilitated by professional counsellors, the event guided participants in exploring themes of friendship and self-awareness. The program began with relaxed icebreaker activities, gradually helping participants feel more connected and at ease. Through a series of psychology-informed activities, participants anonymously shared their perspectives on friendship, finding emotional resonance around values such as authenticity and shared worldviews.

During the card-based roundtable session, participants selected symbolic cards that reflected their personal friendship styles. With professional guidance, they engaged in deeper discussions, using the cards as a medium to express their unique understanding of friendship, personal needs, and expectations—further enhancing self-awareness and reflection.

IPAC recognizes that for international students studying abroad, building social connections and adapting to a new cultural environment are essential aspects of their overall wellbeing. Through thoughtfully designed programs like this, IPAC not only supports students in better understanding themselves, but also provides a safe and supportive space to explore themes of friendship, connection, and identity.

This event not only helped international students get to know one another, but also supported their social adjustment in a new environment. Guided by professional counsellors, participants gained emotional support and fresh perspectives through shared dialogue—helping to ease feelings of isolation during the transition period and encouraging the development of meaningful social networks within their new community.
