On February 11, 2025, IPAC hosted a Lantern Festival celebration.
The Lantern Festival Celebration hosted by IPAC was joyfully shared with friends from the Domimi Senior Band, creating a meaningful and festive gathering. More than a celebration of a traditional holiday, the event became a warm cultural exchange—allowing participants to experience a sense of home and belonging while living abroad.
Mental Health Roundtable Discussion
The event began with a mental health roundtable led by counsellor Rene, focusing on the theme of communication. The discussion introduced the concept of “I statements,” encouraging participants to express their own feelings rather than placing blame on others. For example, instead of saying “You never reply to my messages,” participants were guided to reframe it as “I feel a bit anxious because I’m not sure whether you received my message.”
This approach helps communicate emotions more effectively while reducing conflict and misunderstanding, offering participants practical tools for healthier and more compassionate communication.
Rene also highlighted the importance of empathy, reminding participants to try to see situations from others’ perspectives rather than holding firmly to their own positions. She shared a lighthearted analogy: “Just like the Tangyuan we’re enjoying today—some people prefer them sweet, others savoury, and some may not like Tangyuan at all. That doesn’t mean anyone is right or wrong; it simply reflects that everyone’s experiences and needs deserve respect.” During the discussion, participants actively shared personal experiences. Communication within the band’s rehearsals became a particularly engaging example. Some participants noted that members often hold different views on rehearsals—some prioritize perfecting details, while others value overall flow and cohesion more. These differing standards and perspectives naturally lead to different communication styles, highlighting how varied expectations can shape the way people interact.
No Lantern Festival is complete without soft and chewy Tangyuan. IPAC prepared a variety of Tangyuan in different shapes and flavours, inviting everyone to gather and enjoy fillings such as black sesame and peanut. Each bite carried a sense of warmth and comfort.
More than a traditional treat, Tangyuan symbolizes reunion, happiness, and heartfelt wishes, adding a meaningful and festive touch to the celebration.
Lantern Riddles Participants gathered around long tables to solve playful lantern riddles, thinking quietly on their own or debating enthusiastically in small groups. The space was filled with laughter and joyful conversation, bringing the Lantern Festival spirit to life.
The lantern riddles challenged the mind while fostering connection and enjoyment among participants.
IPAC remains committed to bringing warmth and support to the community by strengthening connections through cultural activities and helping individuals find a sense of belonging while living abroad. Looking ahead, we will continue to host diverse and meaningful programs that support growth through cultural exchange and mental wellbeing.
We sincerely thank every participant for joining us with such enthusiasm, and we look forward to gathering again soon. ❤️
IPAC wishes everyone a joyful Lantern Festival, family togetherness, happiness, and good health.
